Lizzy van Itallie
b. 1993. Amsterdam

Zig zag and tack. Practicing a sense of direction. Never gazing for a destination but rather for the shift of perspective:
a conversation, different context, serendipity, the change of tides.
Always footloose, in between and redefining our position.

In earlier practices I have been sifting through physicality's of libraries, bookshelves and classification standards through metaphors of orientation and navigation, placing into dialog my artistic practice with my experience as a library clerk and as a sailor.

Also I’m currently restoring a ship together with my partner Jeroen van Ewijk.
It’s name is ‘Nieuwe Zorg’.
She is build in 1882 to sail rivers and dredge sand from their bottoms.

Both this website and the ship function as an open platform where I hope to invite others to share with me their practice of navigating through bookshelves and beyond.
